Piano Trio - Piano Quartet

Trio Zeitgeist

Formed in 2020 and based in Switzerland, Trio Zeitgeist brings together violinist Tim Crawford, cellist Martin Egidi, and pianist Martin Jollet. The ensemble quickly established itself as one of the most compelling young chamber groups in Switzerland, winning the inaugural Paul Juon Chamber Music Competition in 2023. As laureates, they are supported by the Förderkreis Kammermusik Schweiz for their concerts across the country.Trio Zeitgeist has performed at leading venues and festivals including Musikdorf Ernen, the Tonhalle Zürich, Lavaux Classic, and the Davos Festival, as well as appearances in England, France, and Lithuania. The three musicians first met in Basel shortly before the pandemic, when months of rehearsal around Schumann’s piano trios forged the foundation of their musical identity. After completing individual master’s degrees in solo and instrumental performance at the Musik Akademie Basel, they are now pursuing a Specialised Master’s in Chamber Music as an ensemble under the guidance of Anton Kernjak, Rainer Schmidt, and Claudio Martínez Mehner. They have also worked in masterclasses with artists such as Steven Isserlis, Miriam Fried, Dénes Várjon, and Alexander Lonquich, and with Claudio Martínez Mehner at IMS Prussia Cove.Dedicated to exploring the full breadth of the piano trio and quartet repertoire, the group frequently collaborates with violist Alinka Rowe. Their concerts embrace both the classical canon and contemporary music, including works by Helena Winkelman, Michael Jarrell, and Jean-Sélim Abdelmoula, who dedicated his first piano trio Chant de Siris to them. Their curiosity also extends to inventive arrangements of works by Ravel and Fauré for piano trio.In addition to the Paul Juon Competition, Trio Zeitgeist has been recognised at the Orpheus Competition and received the Musik Akademie Basel Prize for Best Recital in 2022 — awarded with the institution’s highest distinction for chamber music.
